Time for another BlackBerry KEYone smartphone case review! I’m a huge fan of the KEYone look and design, and covering it up with a case is a shame in my opinion. Our Incipio Octane Pure review takes a look at a case which not only protects your BlackBerry KEYone but also allows most of the design to remain visible.
The Incipio Octane Pure has the following features and specifications:
- Shock absorbing co-molded design with dual materials for double the protection without the bulk
- Impact resistant Flex2O TPU bumper is flexible for user-friendly installation
- Rigid Plextonium polycarbonate shell defends against bumps and drops
- Translucent design lets your device show through
- Drop tested 6 ft.
- Dimensions: 6.08 x 3.05 x 0.55″ (154.43 x 77.47 x 13.97 mm)
- Weight: 0.08 lb (1.28 oz)
What’s in the box
- Incipio Octane Pure case for BlackBerry KEYone
- One-year warranty
The Incipio Octane Pure smartphone case for the BlackBerry KEYone features a pretty simple design. The outer bumper is a solid, rubbery feeling TPO which covers the buttons and has cutouts for your various ports and speakers. In the case of our review sample, the bumper is black in colour but a clear version is also available. While the button covers themselves are black, there is a thin clear frame around them.
The back of the case is a clear, hard polycarbonate shell. The clear look lets you showcase the textured black back of the KEYone as well as the silver top and BlackBerry logo. The Incipio logo is stamped into the inside of the back plate in the lower right-hand corner.
Unlike our other recent BlackBerry KEYone case reviews, the Incipio Octane Pure is actually thick enough that the physical keyboard buttons actually have a bit of space between them and whatever flat surface you’re placing your phone — while in the case — on.
As with other single layer smartphone cases, the Incipio Octane Pure is super simple to install — simply slide one end of your BlackBerry KEYone into the case and push the other edges around the device. Once installed, the Octane Pure case fits nice and snug but is still easy to remove.
The Incipio Octane Pure offers up to 6′ of tested drop protection. Given the thickness of the bumpers, the hardness of the clear back panel, and the fact that it actually extends enough to allow some clearance for the physical keyboard when placed face down, this case should easily protect your phone from daily bumps, drops, and scrapes.
With an MSRP of $29.99USD, the case is unfortunately sold out on the Incipio website at the time of this review. However, the clear version of the case is still available on Amazon. At the asking price, even though the case offers solid protection and a clear design, I feel that $24.99 is a more reasonable price point, considering the DualPro case which offers 12′ drop protection and a dual layer design is also sold for $29.99.
If you’re looking for decent protection without hiding the look of your BlackBerry KEYone, the Incipio Octane Pure smartphone case is a decent choice.
