Backpacks come in myriad shapes, sizes, and designs with multiple feature sets. Some have most of what you’re looking for, others just don’t quite fit your needs. HURU is a backpack that offers an interesting set of features that they hope will fit your needs, offering you the freedom to do what you want. Huru means freedom in Swahili, so the company has really taken the idea of going where you want to go to heart. Let’s take a look at what HURU has to offer for your backpack needs.
Up first, you’re probably going to want a backpack that can hold a lot of your stuff. This backpack expands from 24 liters of capacity all the way up to 40 liters in a few short steps. You ought to be able to carry quite a lot whether that includes going to the office, travelling on business or pleasure, or even just going for a hike in the woods.
There are of course the expected pockets for your 15″ laptop here, but the storage does so much more than what you might expect. There are hidden pockets inside of the straps for small valuables, there’s an expandable top pocket for large items such as tennis rackets or other taller belongings, the waist strap can be removed and used as a sling pack (or just use it as a fanny pack, people do still use those sometimes), there’s even an included hood to keep your head dry if it starts raining. If that’s not enough, you’ll also find an insulated pocket to help keep your bottled drinks warm or cool.
All of this is packed inside a durable Cordura fabric exterior with a leather base, leather handle, and YKK zippers. All of those materials are water resistant and built to last. HURU is confident enough in their backpack that they’re offering a lifetime warranty in case anything does break. The backpack is also built with comfort in mind, providing lateral stiffness across the back to spread the load away from areas more susceptible to damage from wearing a heavy backpack.
The Kickstarter campaign just started this morning, but they’re already off to a pretty good start. The project has raised nearly $8500 USD of its $15,000 USD goal, with 34 days left in the campaign. You can get in as a super early-bird backer now for $249 USD, which is a 29% discount off of the future retail price. Once the early-bird tiers are gone, the Kickstarter price is $299 USD which is still a 14% savings. HURU intends to have products available to ship to early-bird backers starting in December, with the remaining order fulfillment coming in early 2018.
