In some areas of the world, air pollution is a major concern especially in urban centers which house millions of people. For the past three years, Plume Labs has been working on Flow, a mobile air quality tracker, and it is now available for pre-order at a special pre-order price. The company already has an app — Plume Air Report — that forecasts real-time air pollution levels around the world but wanted to take it one step further.

“Over the past three years, we have been perfecting Flow’s custom sensing technologies and environmental AI in partnership with renowned environmental researchers from institutions such as Imperial College London and France’s CNRS-LISA, to build the most comprehensive personal air quality tracking technology on the market, ” says David Lissmyr, CTO and Founder of Plume Labs.

During the beta test period, 100 users mapped out 1,300 sidewalks in London over the summer to record and map pollution levels across the city. The area covered 20% of London’s inner core and 500,000 air quality data points were sampled. The crowdsourced samples were then displayed on a map.London-air-quality

Flow collects air quality data and tracks personal exposure, both indoors and outside, and displays that information on the companion iOS or Android app. Utilizing a custom sensor array, it covers the full spectrum of air pollutants that are critical to human health. The device resembles a bell of sorts and has a strap which will allow you to easily carry it or attach it to your bag.
