Ring is a name we’re very familiar with having reviewed their home security offerings in the past. Both the Ring Video Doorbell and the Ring Stick Up Cam are excellent products. Now the company is expanding its home security offering with the Ring Protect Kit. The kit offers up home security at an affordable price and integrates into their other products as well. The system is a DIY solution aimed at cutting out services like Vivint and ADT which can get costly month after month. Of course, the Ring Protect Kit is probably not for everyone, but it should be great for those who don’t mind doing the legwork themselves.

Jamie Siminoff, Chief Inventor and Founder of Ring, said: “At Ring, everything we make is designed to establish and enhance a Ring of Security around homes and neighborhoods. Ring Protect provides an incredibly effective level of security when compared to traditional, expensive systems, yet comes at a fraction of the cost since it was developed in-house. Offering an effective, inexpensive solution means more homeowners can afford and use Ring Protect, which in turn leads to safer neighborhoods.”

Ring Protect doesn’t involve contracts (there is a monthly fee if you choose to cloud record your system) and the only equipment you need is all in the bundles. The starting bundle is just $199USD and includes the following:

  • Base Station
  • Keypad
  • Contact Sensor (for a window or door)
  • Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR)
  • Z-Wave Extender

The Ring Protect plans start at $10USD a month and include:

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X ...
HOW TO: Change system date in OS X from Terminal
  • 24/7 professional monitoring
  • Cloud video storage for an unlimited amount of Ring devices
  • Free Ring mobile app usage
  • 10 percent off all future Ring purchases

Ring also offers a neighborhood program where you can share your Ring security stream with your neighbors. That’s a pretty nifty feature should you want to keep tabs on each other’s homes. Ring Protect is available for preorder today at Ring.com, HomeDepot.com and BestBuy.com and will be available in Home Depot and Best Buy stores later this month.
