The Witcher 3 patch offers Xbox One X gamers 4K and Performance Modes

CD PROJEKT RED’s latest The Witcher 3 patch makes it the latest game to get Xbox One X Enhanced with 4K textures and a new performance mode. While previous games getting Xbox One X Enhanced have focused on 4K, HDR, and improved framerate, The Witcher 3 takes things one step further by allowing gamers to decide what is more important to them: better visuals or higher framerates.

The new 4K Mode will run the game at 4K resolution (supersampled for non-4K displays) at 30fps. The mode also features enhanced shadows, texture filtering, higher resolution textures, and ambient occlusion. For those desiring a smoother gameplay experience, Performance Mode utilizes dynamic resolution scaling to target 60fps during gameplay. The dynamic resolution scaling will adjust the graphics between 1080p and 4K to achieve that target framerate. Both modes also feature HDR for more vivid colours while playing on HDR-capable displays.

The full list of changes in the Xbox One X patch include:

  • 2 new graphic modes: 4K Mode and Performance Mode
  • support for 4K resolution
  • HDR support
  • enhanced shadows, ambient occlusion, and texture filtering
  • higher resolutions textures
  • dynamic resolution scaling (from 1080p to 4K)

For those playing on the PlayStation 4 Pro, don’t fret as CD PROJEKT RED has also announced that an upgrade patch will be coming for that console soon. The upcoming patch will add HDR support to the previous October patch which introduced 4K resolution and other graphical and performance enhancements to the PS4 Pro version of the game.
