After an initial faltering with smartphones, wireless charging is becoming more mainstream with more phones and even earbuds supporting it. The technology is slowly making its way to other devices as well, such as computer mice. Razer is taking the wireless mouse one step further and has eliminated the battery altogether in the Razer Mamba HyperFlux wireless gaming mouse and Firefly HyperFlux RGB mouse mat.
“While other companies have attempted to do wireless charging for mice, they have been unable to achieve true wireless power as their mice still need a battery to be charged. HyperFlux Wireless Power Technology is a game changer in the world of wireless gaming,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “Gamers are no longer held at the mercy of a battery or cable. Instead, there will be true wireless freedom with a cordless gaming mouse that’s the same weight as a wired mouse.”
While there are other wireless mouse/charging mouse pads on the market, Razer HyperFlux “allows the mouse mat to create a magnetic field that efficiently transfers power directly to its companion mouse instead of charging a heavy battery.” When the Firefly HyperFlux mouse mat is plugged in, it supplies indefinite power to the Mamba HyperFlux. As a result, the Razer Mamba weighs a mere 96g for an ultra-lightweight wireless gaming mouse that’s comparable to its wired counterparts. Wireless mice can also suffer from lag, but Razer’s Adaptive Frequency Technology aims to counteract that by scanning and switching to the strongest radio signal within the 2.4GHz band. The mouse can also be used in wired mode with the included cable.
