Todd McFarlane wants to start filming Spawn in May

If you’ve followed me here or on social media you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Spawn. I’m even more excited that Todd McFarlane wants to give us a Spawn movie that, well, hopefully, won’t suck. So we already knew that McFarlane was planning on a new Spawn movie but no other details were given. Now we’re hearing that Todd McFarlane wants to start filming the much-anticipated film this May.

McFarlane has been working on casting the film with various names being rumored such as Leonard DiCaprio as Twitch Williams and Jamie Foxx as Spawn.

“We just officially the other day had our first casting meeting, and so what that means for anyone listening today is with the final script we’re going to start sending that into Hollywood to actually go pick up the cast members,” McFarlane said.

“More specifically, are there actors or characters you’ve seen in other movies that you think fall into that pool, because all of that gives the casting director a picture so that they can go ‘oh, okay, I know who to go after now that we’re doing it,'” he said. “So we’ve officially begun the casting process.”

One other bit of info on the new film is that it will revolve more around private investigator Twitch Williams rather than Spawn himself. It sounds as if Todd McFarlane wants to split the screen time between the two characters. That’s not a bad idea, making Spawn more of a background entity to Twitch’s outward role. I’m sure it’s going to spark a lot of debate among hardcore fans but personally, I’m fine with it. I have faith in the creator of the character to hopefully bring us what we’ve always wanted in a Spawn movie.
