Westworld Season 2 trailer teases Shogunworld

HBO just dropped the official trailer for the second season of their hit series Westworld and is it full of some interesting scenes — not to mention the chilling rendition of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.”

Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) take center stage here again, with part of the conversation centering on whether or not dreams matter to robots. Of course, we’re given a healthy dose of The Man in Black (Ed Harris) who seems intent on revenge and plans to “burn this whole thing to the ground.” We also see that Maeve (Thandie Newton) is still searching for her daughter (that is, if she even exists) and Teddy (James Marsden) is still in the picture as well.

However, one of the more exciting glimpses in the trailer — not to say the entire trailer isn’t full of hype — is a quick glimpse of Shogunworld (something that was teased in season one), a sister park to Westworld. While I thoroughly enjoyed the wild west setting of the first season, it’ll be interesting to see how much of the second season takes place in a shogun-era Japanese-themed robot theme park.

In typical fashion, HBO leaves us with a chilling exchange between Bernard and Dolores when Bernard mentions that “sometimes you frighten me Dolores…,” to which she responds with an innocent smile and “why on earth would you ever be frightened of me?”

Based on the Michael Crichton film of the same name and starring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, and James Marsden, Westworld Season 2 drops on HBO starting on April 22nd.
