Alexa Announcements let you easily rally your family members

|

I have fond memories as a child of the way that my father would alert me to various household events. The standard loud yell from one floor to another acted as notification of a phone call, dinner, or any number of other announcements. That was a time before Alexa. Now, I can look forward to using Alexa for the same purposes. Alexa Announcements are rolling out to your Amazon Echo devices now, and will provide an easy method for one-way communication throughout your house without yelling.

Amazon has been adding communication features to Alexa for awhile now, and Alexa Announcements are just the next in that line of features. Announcements allow you to easily make proclamations across nearly any Echo device in your home. Announcements can be invoked in several ways:

  • “Alexa, announce that dinner’s ready”
  • “Alexa, broadcast bring me some toilet paper”
  • “Alexa, announce I’ve glued my head to my shoulder”

Even better, once your announcement or broadcast is set, all other compatible Echo devices will make your announcement using your voice. Your spouse and children will shudder as they decide who should have to deliver more toilet paper.

Alexa Announcements are rolling out today to users in the U.S. and Canada. Compatible Echo devices include just about everything, though the Echo Tap is currently not supported. However, any Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, or Echo Spot should be ready to deliver your messages in the very near future.

Do you have more than one Echo device around your house that you could use for announcements? Do you think you’ll use Alexa Announcements with your compatible Echo devices? Tell us what you think in the comment section below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
