Sea of Thieves content expansions detailed

The game has been out for a few weeks now, and based on the feedback I’ve been hearing, Sea of Thieves has been just a little bit light on stuff to actually do. The water looks incredible, sailing is fun, but outside of those two things many have found the game to be lacking. Rare has recently outlined some of the new content that will be coming to Sea of Thieves in the near future. They’ve also reaffirmed that these updates will be free, to keep everybody on the same map, so to speak.

As it pertains to content updates, the developers have been listening to players. They’ve also been trying to tailor updates in a way that best suits what they feel to be the most impactful areas:

  • Bringing players together in interesting ways, encouraging different types of player encounters
  • Enriching the world that players adventure in
  • Giving players new ways to play
  • Giving players a variety of goals and rewards
  • Broadening the journey to Pirate Legend and beyond

So to that end, they’ve outlined several upcoming updates that will be spread out over the next months. Up first is “The Hungering Deep” in May, which will introduce a new threat for players to deal with.

Crews will have to work together to discover and defeat this threat as part of a unique event. We will also be introducing a number of new mechanics to assist players on this adventure, and there will be unique rewards that players can earn as part of this event.

The game will also begin to see weekly events starting in May with new rewards to be won. Later in the summer players can expect to see “Cursed Sails” and “Forsaken Shores” which will introduce a new ship type and map area to explore respectively.

You can watch some of the Sea of Thieves devs talk about these updates in the video below:

What do you think about the upcoming content updates for Sea of Thieves? Will this be enough to get you back into the game if you’ve stopped playing? Is this what you wanted to see before jumping into the game for the first time? Tell us what you think in the comment section below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
