While the series debuted in July 2013, subsequent seasons of Orange is the New Black released on the streaming service in June. Netflix has been pretty quiet on the OITNB front and viewers wondered when the next season of the show would be released after there was no mention of it in the New on Netflix June lists. We knew a sixth season was coming as the show has been renewed through the end of a seventh season. At any rate, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Netflix just announced that Season 6 will debut on July 27th. The date was announced with a Facebook post and the caption “Bye bye, Litch.”
NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD!
If you’ve been following the series, then you’re well aware that the shit hit the fan during the tail end of Season 5 and we were left wondering what was going to happen next after the riot. The date announcement trailer is pretty vague, the “Bye bye, Litch” tag is obviously indicating that the series will be moving to a different location. Of course, “to the max” can only mean one thing in the prison world — a maximum security prison. Given the broken windows and a smoke grenade in the foreground, we can rather safely assume that the ladies of the Litchfield minimum-security prison are headed up the road to the maximum-security prison. Given we don’t even see any of the characters, it’ll be interesting to see who survives the fallout of the aftermath of the events of Season 5.
