I don’t think I need to explain who Patrick Stewart is to anyone. The man is not only a theater actor but has portrayed Professor X as well as the great Jean-Luc Picard. Now, Patrick Stewart himself has just announced a return to the iconic role in a new CBS All Access series.
It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Read my full statement in the photo. #StarTrek @cbsallaccess Photo: @shervinfoto pic.twitter.com/8Ynuj3RBNm

“With overwhelming joy, it’s a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the Star Trek fold,” Kurtzman said. “For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can’t wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old.”
This is exciting news for those of us who grew up on Star Trek: The Next Generation and for Star Trek fans in general. While I understand and accept William Shatner and James T. Kirk’s roles in the franchise. Stewart, was for me, the only reason I actually started watching Star Trek.
So this is going to be exciting. Not to mention it should help CBS All Access gain some subscribers, at least during the new series. No word on when to expect the new series to air. We hope it’s in 2019 but one never knows for sure with these Hollywood production studios.
