Of course, Apple touted the superior sales numbers of the Apple Watch as well as how much Apple Watch “improves” your life. There’s no doubt that Apple Watch is the best-selling smartwatch on the market so let’s get past that. What’s new with the next-generation Apple Watch?

The display is over 30% larger than the previous generation. The casing is also thinner but the width is about the same as the Series 3 watch. There are a bunch of new watch faces with animations and new complications. You can even add your contacts to your watch face and tap to connect.

The digital crown has been improved with haptics and the speaker is 50% louder than the Series 3. The Series 4 Apple Watch also redesigns the back which allows for better connectivity.

The new Series 4 also sports a new CPU, the S4 is 64-bit and up to 2x faster than the previous generation. There’s also a new gyroscope and accelerometer that is paired with new software that can detect if you fall. This could help if you fall and are unable to call 911. The Watch will auto call 911 if you’re not moving within a minute. Pretty cool stuff.

The next-generation Apple Watch also sports some new heart sensor features. It can detect if your heart rate is too slow and it will alert you. It can also screen your heart rhythm and can detect abnormal rhythms which may be helpful to detect a problem ahead of time. There is a new electrical heart sensor on the back that will allow you to take an electrocardiogram (ECG). The ECG on the Apple Watch Series 4 has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Heart Association.

The new Apple Watch battery life has the same 18-hour battery life that the Series 3 had so that’s a plus as well. They’ve also extended the workout time for battery life to 6-hours.

The next-generation Apple Watch will be available in 3 colors, gold, space grey, and silver. There’s also the stainless collection which are more expensive but come in polished steel and space black. The Watch starts at $399USD and goes up from there. You can order starting September 14th.
