Marvel’s Iron Fist won’t be returning to Netflix

Marvel’s Iron Fist is no more and won’t get a third season — at least on Netflix — as the company announced the cancellation today.

Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” said the Disney-owned comic giant and the streamer in a joint statement to Deadline today.

While the show was arguably the weakest link in Netflix’s Marvel lineup, reviews indicate that the second season somewhat redeemed the series and there was hope for a third season. However, given Disney’s soon to be launched streaming service, as well as the fact they own Marvel, it’s not all that surprising to see some Marvel and Star Wars related content pegged to be leaving Netflix.

“Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners,” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Other Marvel series like Daredevil (which is seeing the third season release next week), Jessica JonesLuke Cage, and The Punisher seem to be safe on Netflix — for now. Given the vague “the immortal Iron Fist will live on” statement by Marvel and Netflix, there is speculation that the show might have a future elsewhere like on Disney’s upcoming service. Disney is already planning series based on Loki and Scarlet Witch and couple be looking to bolster it’s new lineup.
