The digital PC game store space will be losing one outlet as Razer has just announced that the Razer Game Store will be closing permanently on February 28th. The news came via a newsletter to Razer subscribers.
“We regret to announce that Razer Game Store (gamestore.razer.com) will cease operations on February 28, 2019, at 0100hrs Pacific Time as part of the company’s realignment plans.
“It has been a privilege for us to recommend and deliver great digital game deals to you. We have been extremely fortunate to have you as part of our awesome community. Thank you for the support and making all this possible.”Razer newsletter
Like Steam, GoG, and the Epic Games stores, gamers could purchase new games and score deep discounts on others. Razer tried to separate themselves by allowing games to earn Razer Silver for any game purchase. Earn enough Razer Silver and games could redeem them on Razer rewards including peripherals and free games.
As for games gamers already purchased, Razer sold them as Steam or Uplay keys, depending on the game. If you haven’t redeemed your keys yet, you need to do so before the store closes.
“All purchased games will still work even after the closure. In case you haven’t activated your Steam or Uplay keys yet, make sure to retrieve them before February 28 from the Razer Game Store. Your game keys have been sent to your email upon purchase, so you’ll still be able to retrieve them in the future. “Razer Game Store FAQ
In addition, any games that you may have pre-ordered will still be fulfilled by Razer upon release. For those concerned about their Razer Silver balances, Razer has indicated that they will still be offering up Razer Silver and Razer Gold after the Razer Game Store closes later this month.
