Chalk up another first for HP: the OMEN X 2S is the world’s first dual-screen gaming laptop. While we’ve seen some prototypes before, this is the first one, that we know of, that is being released to the public.

While you won’t be getting a full dual-screen experience, the HP OMEN X 2S has a second, smaller touchscreen embedded above the keyboard. The decision to include a six-inch 1080p screen instead of a full slide or fold out screen like other prototypes came from gamer research. According to the research, 82 percent of people use their mobile phones for messaging during gaming sessions, 61 percent listen to music, and 49 percent watch game related live streams, video content and browse websites.

“Pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with game-changing evolutionary and revolutionary products reflects the philosophy of reinvention at HP. The OMEN brand continues to think big and OMEN X 2S is a prime example of how we are setting new standards and changing how a gaming laptop is used.”

Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems, HP Inc.

The second screen will allow gamers to access a number of secondary functions right from their laptop without having to switch to their mobile device or to tab out to a different screen. The display is capable of everything from displaying Twitch or Discord, mirroring and enlarging game features such as maps, watching YouTube hint videos, and much more. To be honest, it really sounds like a very useful second screen experience.

The OMEN X 2S also boasts some industry-leading construction features and components. The full metal chassis comes in at 20mm thin and is the first 15″ gaming laptop to use a liquid metal compound for the thermal system by Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. According to HP, this provides up to 10 times the thermal conductivity of silicon thermal grease, allowing up to 28% boost in the framerate over traditional grease when tested with Apex Legends. Not only that, the system boasts an 8.5% faster lead time in a Blender Benchmark test.

The OMEN X 2S will be available in two configurations. The first sports an i7-9750H HC processor, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, RTX2080 8GB, 802.11AX wireless, 15-inch 144Hz IPS Panel, and Win10 Home. The second configuration can be customized further but starts with an i7-9750H HC processor, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, RTX2070 8GB, 802.11AX wireless, 15-inch 144Hz IPS Panel, and Win10 Home. The second option is customizable with other options for an added price.

The OMEN X 2S dual-screen gaming laptop is expected to be available by June via HP.com and other retailers for a starting price of US$2099.99.
