totallee Pixel 3 XL leather case and full-screen protector review: Minimal case full coverage screen protection

Android / iOS / Mobile / Mobile Reviews / Reviews

totallee is all about minimal look and feel with clean design and decent protection.

We’ve reviewed totallee products in the past and, personally, I am a big fan. I like minimal cases a lot which is what this company does best. This time, totallee sent along a couple of totallee Pixel 3 XL items along with a new iPhone XS full-screen protector.

The first totallee Pixel 3 XL item the company sent is the totallee Pixel 3 XL full-screen protector. They also sent their new totallee Pixel 3 XL leather slim case for review. Let’s dive right into this, and if you want to watch a video on these, please check that out at the end of this written review.

You can visit totalle’s website for a full range of cases, screen protectors, and other accessories for the Pixel, iPhone, and Samsung Galaxy devices.

Design

Before we dive into the design of the totallee Pixel 3 XL full-screen protector, it’s worth noting that the company also offers a full-screen protector for the iPhone. You can find that on their website as well. They sent along one for testing, and it’s basically scoring the same as the totallee Pixel 3 XL full-screen protector in all categories.

The design of a screen protector isn’t all that dynamic. It’s a piece of tempered glass that lays over your smartphone glass. Pretty simple. The totallee Pixel 3 XL full-screen protector actually does things a bit differently. Because the Pixel 3 XL has thicker bezels than the iPhone XS, totallee only put adhesive on the bezels of the screen protector allowing the glass to be free of adhesive.

This makes for little-to-no bubbles when installing, but I did find that on occasion I’d have to tap harder to register input on the glass below. It wasn’t all of the time but the few times I had to it was annoying. That’s not going to be a problem for many of you, so it’s probably not a deal breaker.

The glass is cut nicely and fits perfectly on the Pixel 3 XL. It feels premium and well made, just as well made as any other glass screen protector. Overall, a nice design but some may not like that there is no adhesive on the glass.

Protection

The job of the totallee Pixel 3 XL full-screen protector is to protect your screen. Simple as that. I feel this protector should do well in protecting your device. If a screen protector shatters and your smartphone glass doesn’t, then it has done its job. Overall, this protector seems solid and should protect your device well.

Price/Value

The totallee Pixel 3 XL full-screen protector is priced at US$25. The iPhone versions are also priced at US$25. This is a bit of a high price on screen protectors but the value lays in how well totallee has cut these protectors. Often times cheap screen protectors can be off just a fraction giving you a bad experience. I didn’t find that here at all.

Wrap Up

These protectors are designed well and they fit perfectly adding great frontal protection to both your Google Pixel 3 XL and iPhone XS devices.

Design

The first thing you notice about this case from totallee is the leather. It’s a very thin sheet of leather that looks like it’s glued on one of the company’s thin cases. It’s important to note that while this is a leather case, it stays true to totallee’s minimal design philosophy, thin and minimal.

The second thing I noticed about this case is that the amount of leather used seems to be very, well, minimal. So much so that you don’t really get that leather smell from it at all. That is something I missed in using this case. But you can feel that the leather is real and it fits nice in the hand.

The company also makes this same case for the iPhone, and it’s basically the same in every way except shape. Minimal cases aren’t for everyone, I get that. But for those who love this style, I think if you want leather and minimal you’ll like this design.

Overall, this is typical totallee design. Clean, minimal, and high-quality.

Protection

Let’s be real here. These cases aren’t going to offer up a lot of protection. They’re meant for small drops on to hard wood floors, carpet, and other non-cement surfaces. And when I say small drops, I am talking 3-feet, maybe a bit more if you’re lucky.

These cases are meant for people who rarely to never drop their devices and want just the smallest of protections. Overall, I don’t think you’ll like these if you want heavy protection. If you’re a minimalist, you will love them.

Price/Value

The totallee Pixel 3 XL leather case and leather iPhone case are priced at US$39 which is actually pretty pricey. I think most hard core minimalists will want this case and it will hold value for them. On a personal level, I’m not sure I’d actually purchase the leather version of a totallee case. Value on this one is really going to be super subjective.

Wrap Up

The totallee leather cases for both Pixel 3 XL and iPhone are nice, no doubt. They don’t offer a lot of protection but they’re also very slim and minimal. The amount of leather used could have been doubled to give it a more plush feel, but I suspect most people will be fine with this case. This is the type of case that people either want or don’t care to have. There are really no in between’s here.
