It wasn’t that long ago when the only personal security we had to worry about was protecting ourselves from personal physical attacks or home burglaries. These days a whole new world of security has presented itself, the world of personal online security.

Personal online security means protecting your online identity as well as your online accounts containing personally identifiable information. When the world went online most users hadn’t thought about such things. The early internet was a new frontier and security was nowhere near the front of our minds.

Things are different now. With the increase in using the internet for banking, shopping, medical, and other activities hackers are on the hunt for your valuable personal information. Identity theft is a big deal because it can literally ruin a person’s life. So it’s more imperative than ever to maintain the best personal online security you can.

Millions of users have taken advantage of online shopping yet have not secured their accounts.

The problem is, most regular users just don’t know how to get started. Worse yet, many users just don’t want to take the time to get started. That’s a dangerous mindset to have as you’re risking a lot by not securing your life online. And it’s not just your banking accounts you need to be mindful of. Social media accounts and even your shopping accounts like Amazon are targets for hackers. The more accounts you can secure the better.

Honestly, if you were totally offline with all your activities you’d be much safer. But for most of us, that’s not an option. Technology and the internet have continually weaved their way into our everyday life fabric. So given that you can’t completely go off-grid, here are 5-steps for better personal online security courtesy of Arkus Inc.
