It’s looking like July is Xbox Achievements Update month for Microsoft. Last week we took a look at the July Update Preview – part of which focuses on increasing the accessibility to Achievements while in-game.
Ever since the launch of the Xbox One last November, gamers have had to rely on the Xbox One SmartGlass app in order to view their achievement progress when not at their console as the achievements on the Xbox Live website are limited to Xbox 360 and Windows achievements – something that was somewhat puzzling to say the least.
In case you missed the annual Electronics Entertainment Expo, we have an “E3 2014 in review” series for you! First up, we take a look at what Microsoft had to offer for the Xbox One and 360 going forward.
Microsoft led the E3 press conferences on Monday morning with a few expected announcements, a couple of surprise announcements, and a focus on games. Microsoft’s strategy was completely different from E3 2013 which focused more on the entertainment side of Xbox Live and the (then) upcoming Xbox One.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) of 2014 has come and gone and I thought it would be a good idea to get some reactions from the staff here at Techaeris. There were a lot things announced, and this will allow us to talk about some of our favorites. Keep reading for our lists of a few games to watch.
Alex and I had the opportunity to speak with Rachel Valentine – Community Manager for ZUUL Labs. ZUUL currently has their first game in Kickstarter, Tall Tails. We posted a preview of Tall Tails last week, and it was great getting to talk to Rachel about the game’s progress. As it stands right now, Tall Tails is 53% funded, with just over $80k of their requested $150k pledged with just under a week left. We’d like to thank Rachel for chatting with us during what is a certainly a very busy time for her, and all of ZUUL Labs.

On Friday, June 6th Turtle Beach announced an Elite membership program, to coincide with a new line of Elite headsets. You don’t necessarily think of game companies having a conscience, but Zuul Labs is looking to buck that trend. Zuul Labs is in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign for their new puzzle/adventure game: Tall Tails. Tall Tails is different from most other games and apps in that a portion of their proceeds from the game will be donated to help rescue dogs in need. Zuul certainly isn’t the first company to do something like this, but it’s definitely rare and refreshing to see. Read on to learn a little bit more about the team and their game.
If you happen to sport an NVIDIA based graphics card inside your humble gaming PC, then you should be pretty familiar with the NVIDIA GeForce Experience app. It is an app that keeps the drivers for your card updated, allows you set up connection for a NVIDIA Shield, set all the graphic settings needed for your games and a whole lot more. Mostly, it is an amazing piece of software that allows you to record yourself gaming and even stream yourself gaming to Twitch. While I have a GeForce GTX 760 OC card, and do a fair amount of gaming, I am still a bit of a noob in all the things the Experience app is capable of. However, I do know that the update that I was just prompted for is a rather interesting and important update. Here is what is new from the change log presented at update time.
MSI is a name many of you in the PC world should know pretty well. They have their mitts in everything from graphics cards to motherboards and plenty more. Today MSI has announced a squadron of new All-in-One PC’s with one thing in mind, gaming.
Origin recently started an “On the House” promotion, where they offer a game (or sometimes two) for free. So far they have been older games, but still quality titles for free. This month that trend continues with Battlefield 3 and Plants Vs. Zombies – Game of the Year Edition for the low, low price of Free!
Last week Drew Sanders brought you his review of Dragons and Titans the Steam powered game from WyrmByte, you can check out his full review HERE. This week WyrmByte is sweetening the pot by offering up 25 Hellfire Starter Packs to our readers here on Techaeris. Full details on what’s included after the break.
First things first, this review is going to assume a certain level of knowledge of the MOBA genre. I am intentionally not getting mired down with the minutia that is shared between practically every title in the category. If you are unfamiliar with these types of games, I would recommend reading up here, before proceeding further into this review.
I recently found a Kickstarter campaign for a very novel (pun completely intended) idea. Storium is a web-based multi-player story writing game. Take a second and re-read that last sentence, I’ll wait. From the Kickstarter page:
I’ve certainly complained about Facebook in the past, and my feelings have largely remained the same. It’s no secret that Facebook doesn’t seem to respect your privacy, and really wants to pry open and inspect all aspects of your life. For the most part we seem to let them. They roll out changes to their privacy settings, making you opt-out of updates that increasingly open up your data – if you can even find where to opt-out in their giant mess of settings.
Today, Digital Storm has announced the release of four brand new, high end gaming laptops – the 15.6 inch Javelin and Lance and the 17.3 inch Krypton and Behemoth.
I was recently told about a Kickstarter campaign for Planets³, a game that was described to me as Minecraft/Terraria/Starbound mixed with deeper RPG elements inspired by games such as Mass Effect, Skyrim, and Zelda. Having played all of those games for more hours than I can count, my interest was certainly piqued.
Plantronics is a company known for their audio accessories, and their latest audio fruition, the Rig headset doesn’t disappoint. I picked up a pair in Vegas at CES and have been using them daily since.

Microsoft is experience some high level management shake ups this morning. First Julie Larson-Green has been moved to the position of Chief Experience Officer and now ex Nokia man Stephen Elop is taking the helm at the devices and studios division. This division includes Xbox and the Surface lineup. Larson-Green sent out a memo explaining the moves to her team (find that below). One things for certain, Microsoft’s new CEO Satya Nadella, seems to be working fast to restructure and place people where he feels they’ll be of best use. It remains to be seen if these choices are good or bad but at least there seems to be a battle plan. Not quiet sure what Elop has to offer in the gaming sector of Microsoft but I’m sure he has some good ideas for the Surface products. Elop has worked for Microsoft in the past as President of the Business division so he has insight and experience into Microsoft culture. What do you guys think of the upper management shake up at Microsoft? Let us know in the comments below! Read Larson-Green’s full memo after the break.
