Leonardo DiCaprio Eyed For Leading Roll In Sony’s Steve Jobs Film

The Hollywood Reporter says that Sony Pictures is in talks with Leonardo DiCaprio to play the roll of Steve Jobs in the film adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography. Last year’s movie “Jobs”, staring Ashton Kutcher, didn’t do too well at the box office and hit sour notes with critics. Sony is basing their film off of the actual biography of Steve Jobs which is probably a good idea given that a lot of what is written in that book comes from Jobs himself. Sony is also hitting up Danny Boyle to direct the film as the deal with David Fincher fell through due to some disagreements between Sony and the director.

Business Insider is reporting that Apple is currently negotiating with the major carriers for a $100 price increase on the iPhone 6. All the leaked information and images have pointed to Apple increasing the size of the iPhone to 4.7″ and possibly a second 5.5″ version. We’re not really sure why Apple is pushing for such a price increase other than manufacturing costs and the use of sapphire displays.

Amazon announced their new stream box, on Wednesday, beautifully named Fire TV.   For $99 this compact set-top box boasts a Qualcomm quad core CPU, 8GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and dual band, dual antenna WiFi (because no one likes waiting for their movies to buffer).  All you need is an HDMI cable and a high definition TV and you’re good to go!  According to Amazon the specs alone makes it roughly 3x faster than both Apple TV and the Roku 3.  Fire TV packs alot of…fire power (I know I know but I couldn’t resist).

Review: Mobile Puzzle Game for Android/iOS

VexPuzzlesPromoPhone3

I recently got my hands on the newest game from Itzy Interactive – Vex Puzzles.  Vex Puzzles is a match 4/block elimination puzzle game with a few twists.  Most notably, the way you actually have to twist your phone during some puzzles to move your blocks.  Not all of Vex’s 480 puzzles require your phone’s accelerometer, but enough do that I would be sure to have two hands available during gameplay.

Typo iPhone Case Gets Hit With Court Ordered Sales Ban

Typo

Typo, the iPhone 5/5s keyboard case that brings a physical keyboard to the iPhone 5/5s has been ordered to cease sales of its case by a US district judge in San Francisco. If you remember sometime last year, Blackberry decided to sure Typo because they felt the companies case looked too similar to Blackberry’s iconic keyboard. CNET and Reuters report that US District Judge William Orrick ruled in favor of Blackberry, saying that they proved the “likelihood” of infringement and Typo had not given evidence to refute that.

Amazon Diving Into Streaming Media Next Week

amazon_instant

Re/code is reporting that Amazon will be releasing a set top streaming box next week allowing users to stream Amazon content to their TVs, this pits them squarely against Apple, Google and Roku in the streaming space. Apple has reportedly sold 13 million Apple TV units while Roku is in a hot second with 8 million. Google brings up the rear, without a solid metric but said to be in the millions, with it’s wildly popular Chromecast. The set top streaming space has no clear leader at the moment, I think people are still feeling this market out.

HTC M8, Samsung S5, It’s Your Turn Apple

iPhone6_Render2_Apple

HTC just announced and unveiled their newest flagship phone, the HTC One M8. The M8 is the much anticipated follow up to last year’s HTC One M7. Initial impressions and reactions seem to be positive for the M8. Having owned the M7 before my current iPhone 5s, my initial impressions of the M8 are also positive. It seems HTC has managed to take an excellent design and make it that much better.

Smartphones have become something of a sport over the past few years. People identify with the device they have in their pockets and people defend their chosen devices to the teeth (much like sport fans). Currently Android and HTC fans are watching the announcement of the new HTC One M8. And soon after the announcement is made the blogs will be feeding the information back to the people. Like fans of any phone, iPhone fans are no strangers to build up and anticipation.

Review: UNU Aero Wireless Charging Case iPhone 5/5s

UNU-Aero

The competition in the iPhone battery case arena is so hot I’m finding it hard to say anything really new about them. I’ve reviewed several battery cases for the iPhone 5/5s in just a few short months. Each one did what it was supposed to do and each one had their share of quirks and really nice features. So, what could a company possibly do to stand out from all the other battery cases? Go wireless.

Review: Bell’O Digital BDH751 Sport Earbuds

The world of headphones and earbuds is a vast sea of “what in the world should I buy!?” While at CES 2014 I spoke to no less than a dozen different headphone/earbud manufacturers. One of those companies was Bell’O Digital. They caught my eye with their beautiful, straight forward and minimal packaging of their sport earbuds. They were kind enough to send us a pair of their BDH751 sport earbuds to test out and review.

Top 10 Must-Have Chromecast Apps

It will come as no surprise to anyone who follows me on Techaeris when I say that I love the Google Chromecast. Earlier this year, I wrote an article as to whether the $35 dongle mattered and why; in short, I believe it matters because the proliferation of the device and an open SDK is helping Google create an industry standard for casting content to screens in a market where others have had either marginal success or failed.

Social media is more popular than ever. Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare and Pinterest each have millions upon millions of users. One of the key similarities of these services is the ability to share your location with family, friends and even people you don’t even know. So what do you do when you’re out and about and you run into one of those people? Do you stay and chat even though you really don’t want to? Do you wish you could have seen them coming so you could avoid them?

Google Facing Potential Class Action Suit Over In-App Purchases

Google-Dollars

A mother has filed a class action complaint in California against Google over in-app purchases made by her son. The story begins with the mother buying a 99¢ game, Marvel Run Jump Smash, for her son. By buying the game, her Google account was left authenticated for 30-minutes (by design) so that in-app purchases would not require a password. In that 30-minute window, her son bought $65.95 in virtual in-game currency known as crystals.

PROTOTYPE

I’ve used many cases in my time as a blogger and smartphone user. Everything from a simple bumper to a heavy duty waterproof/dustproof case. I’ve even used a decent amount of power cases. But Prescient Audio is making something just a bit different from what I’ve ever used before. The AudioCase is not only a protective case and extra battery. It also houses a premium speaker inside which Prescient Audio is saying will deliver high quality sound. It’s really a neat concept and one we hope can deliver. Check out the video below.

Why You Should Use Telegram Instead of WhatsApp

When Facebook acquired popular messaging platform WhatsApp on February 19, 2014, for US$19 billion in shares, stock, and cash, two things happened: The Internet went crazy trying to figure out Facebook’s angle on the purchase, and millions of users began flocking to Telegram.

telegram

Founded in 2013 by brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, Telegram is a free, open source messaging app that focuses on maintaining maximum security for its users. It is available on both Android and iOS officially and Windows Phone, Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX unofficially for free; indeed, the company makes it plain on their website that “Telegram is free forever.
