Apple’s Smartwatch Is Coming – Opinion

iOS 8 is nearly proof that Apple will build a smartwatch and it is a good estimation to think it will release this year. Many companies have a smartwatch currently on the market with many more amazing models on the way such as the Moto360 and the Kairos watch we previewed last week. The smartwatch everyone is waiting for is one the company that will make it has not even announced yet. Here’s why we should expect an announcement soon.

Currently there are three major players in the smartphone mobile operating system market, Android, iOS and Windows Phone. All of these can be found globally with different shares of different markets. Now Firefox is attempting to assert itself into a virtually untapped market starting in India, the low-budget market. While there are plenty of people who can afford the latest flagship phones from each respective mobile OS there’s an equal number of people who cannot afford to have an iPhone, HTC M8 or Nokia phone in their pockets.

Springpad Shutting Down Users Have Until June 25th To Export Data

springpad

Springpad, an iOS and Android app much like Evernote has shut down and is giving users until June 25th to export their data or migrate it over to Evernote. The company says it cannot continue to be a self-sustaining business because funding is just not there. It’s sad to see competition die off like this but it’s the reality of the business world. Not every company will remain standing, there will be a select few left hopefully enough to leave the consumer some good choice. Read Springpad’s full announcement below.

XDA Developers send along word that Researchers at Columbia University have created a way for iOS Apps to run on Android.  While Android has certainly decreased iOS’s lead in app quality/quantity over the last few years, there are still iOS exclusives that will probably never come to Android.  The University’s project, code named Cider, looks to change that.

Business Insider is reporting that Apple is currently negotiating with the major carriers for a $100 price increase on the iPhone 6. All the leaked information and images have pointed to Apple increasing the size of the iPhone to 4.7″ and possibly a second 5.5″ version. We’re not really sure why Apple is pushing for such a price increase other than manufacturing costs and the use of sapphire displays.

Review: Mobile Puzzle Game for Android/iOS

VexPuzzlesPromoPhone3

I recently got my hands on the newest game from Itzy Interactive – Vex Puzzles.  Vex Puzzles is a match 4/block elimination puzzle game with a few twists.  Most notably, the way you actually have to twist your phone during some puzzles to move your blocks.  Not all of Vex’s 480 puzzles require your phone’s accelerometer, but enough do that I would be sure to have two hands available during gameplay.

Review: Bell’O Digital BDH751 Sport Earbuds

The world of headphones and earbuds is a vast sea of “what in the world should I buy!?” While at CES 2014 I spoke to no less than a dozen different headphone/earbud manufacturers. One of those companies was Bell’O Digital. They caught my eye with their beautiful, straight forward and minimal packaging of their sport earbuds. They were kind enough to send us a pair of their BDH751 sport earbuds to test out and review.

Top 10 Must-Have Chromecast Apps

It will come as no surprise to anyone who follows me on Techaeris when I say that I love the Google Chromecast. Earlier this year, I wrote an article as to whether the $35 dongle mattered and why; in short, I believe it matters because the proliferation of the device and an open SDK is helping Google create an industry standard for casting content to screens in a market where others have had either marginal success or failed.

Social media is more popular than ever. Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare and Pinterest each have millions upon millions of users. One of the key similarities of these services is the ability to share your location with family, friends and even people you don’t even know. So what do you do when you’re out and about and you run into one of those people? Do you stay and chat even though you really don’t want to? Do you wish you could have seen them coming so you could avoid them?

I have had Google Drive since it’s inception, but until recently it was lacking in features compared to several other cloud storage options. The first cloud Storage I used on a regular basis was DropBox because it was easy to upload, download and share to anyone via email or link. It has been the most popular backup solution for a great many people world wide.dropbox-logo

Analysts Agree, Windows Phone Has Passed Blackberry

Most of us have already assumed that Blackberry’s position at the top (in the U.S.) was coming to an end. We also assumed that Windows Phone would likely pass Blackberry at some point. International Data Group made the call earlier that Blackberry had lost its third position to Windows Phone but not everyone agreed. But now comScore has also verified that their data points to Blackberry slipping to 4th and Windows Phone pulling into the 3rd slot behind Android and iOS, albeit a distant 3rd.

Why You Should Use Telegram Instead of WhatsApp

When Facebook acquired popular messaging platform WhatsApp on February 19, 2014, for US$19 billion in shares, stock, and cash, two things happened: The Internet went crazy trying to figure out Facebook’s angle on the purchase, and millions of users began flocking to Telegram.

telegram

Founded in 2013 by brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, Telegram is a free, open source messaging app that focuses on maintaining maximum security for its users. It is available on both Android and iOS officially and Windows Phone, Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX unofficially for free; indeed, the company makes it plain on their website that “Telegram is free forever.

Apple Drops Support / Updates For Snow Leopard

CNNMoney is reporting that Apple has pulled the plug on updates for OSX 10.6, better known as Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard was released in 2009 and it’s estimated to still be running on 19% of the world’s Apple computers. This really comes as no surprise as Apple has released three versions of OSX since, Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks. This really shouldn’t be an issue for most, as long as your Mac is a 2007 model or newer, you can just head over to the App Store and download and install OSX Mavericks for free. Upgrading to Mavericks is quick and painless and highly recommended to keep getting those security updates.
