In case you missed the annual Electronics Entertainment Expo, we have an “E3 2014 in review” series for you! First up, we take a look at what Microsoft had to offer for the Xbox One and 360 going forward.

Microsoft led the E3 press conferences on Monday morning with a few expected announcements, a couple of surprise announcements, and a focus on games. Microsoft’s strategy was completely different from E3 2013 which focused more on the entertainment side of Xbox Live and the (then) upcoming Xbox One.

Steve Ballmer Wins Bid For Los Angeles Clippers At $2 Billion

Steve Ballmer

The bidding war for the LA Clippers is over with Steve Ballmer coming out on top with the winning bid of $2 billion. I’d actually call this a better investment that the $3 billion that Tim Cook spent on Dr Dre and Beats, but I digress. Ballmer beat out other bidders that included Los Angeles-based investors Tony Ressler and Bruce Karsh and a group that included David Geffen and executives from the Guggenheim Group.

Surface Pro 3 Gets Official, Actually Seems Pretty Sweet

Surface Pro 3
Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3

Today Microsoft announced the release of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. For those living under a rock, the Surface Pro represents Microsoft’s vision of how tablets and laptops can occupy the same space and how Windows 8 as an operating system can handle different use cases. I suppose there are arguments to be made about the successes and failures of that vision but today breaks the mold, literally.  Today, Microsoft shows off the new Surface Pro 3, the first in the line of laplets (I just made that up, don’t hurt me) to deviate strongly from the original’s design.

Nintendo Lacks Focus – A Proposal

Nintendo_Logo

Over the last few months analysts and consumers alike have realized that Nintendo has a potentially serious problem. Sales are faltering and brand recognition is being overtaken by other companies, namely Sony, Microsoft and, to a lesser degree, brands available on more mobile devices than Nintendo’s proprietary mobile hardware. Our own Justin Jelinek reported on this earlier last week.

It’s no secret that Chromebooks are fast becoming popular. They’re lightweight in hardware and software but most importantly, they’re affordable. Microsoft Windows XP Support Is Officially Dead

Today is the day folks. Today is the day Microsoft sticks the fork in its 12 year old operating system Windows XP. If you’re running a computer with Windows XP you will no longer be receiving any form of update to your OS. This WILL leave you open for even more malware, virus and trojan attacks. Now this doesn’t mean you can’t use your computer or its operating system, it just means you use it at your own risk. If you didn’t already know, there are some bad bad people out there looking to cause havoc and steal information. Now that XP is no longer supported, this leaves them free to find bugs and backdoors to exploit the operating system at will. It’s highly suggested that you upgrade to Windows 7 or find an alternative solution.

I have had Google Drive since it’s inception, but until recently it was lacking in features compared to several other cloud storage options. The first cloud Storage I used on a regular basis was DropBox because it was easy to upload, download and share to anyone via email or link. It has been the most popular backup solution for a great many people world wide.dropbox-logo

Microsoft Wants To Run Political Ads On Xbox Live Based On Your Data

xbox-live-img

Microsoft wants to use their popular Xbox Live platform as well as Skype and MSN to run political ads targeted at their users based on the data collected from those services. The Washington Post is reporting that Microsoft was handing out promo materials at CPAC that outlined and presented the idea. There’s no question that there’s money to be had in political advertising, on both sides of the aisle, and the political season is upon us.

Microsoft is experience some high level management shake ups this morning. First Julie Larson-Green has been moved to the position of Chief Experience Officer and now ex Nokia man Stephen Elop is taking the helm at the devices and studios division. This division includes Xbox and the Surface lineup. Larson-Green sent out a memo explaining the moves to her team (find that below). One things for certain, Microsoft’s new CEO Satya Nadella, seems to be working fast to restructure and place people where he feels they’ll be of best use. It remains to be seen if these choices are good or bad but at least there seems to be a battle plan. Not quiet sure what Elop has to offer in the gaming sector of Microsoft but I’m sure he has some good ideas for the Surface products. Elop has worked for Microsoft in the past as President of the Business division so he has insight and experience into Microsoft culture. What do you guys think of the upper management shake up at Microsoft? Let us know in the comments below! Read Larson-Green’s full memo after the break.
