The next to take a crack at the hearts, minds, and eyeballs of consumers is Sony, who today announced their entry into the smart glasses market. Sony’s SmartEyeglass differentiates itself by using a transparent lens display that does not obstruct a user’s vision, opting instead to overlay instructions on the lenses themselves. This week we discovered one very important feature for the upcoming Moto 360, Motorola’s smartwatch that is expected to be revealed on June 25th at Google I/O. Wireless charging will most likely be revealed for the Moto 360 as part of the product announcement on Wednesday. This information comes from an FCC filing last week by Motorola for a Smart Watch Wireless Charger.

It makes me sick to my stomach just typing it. This entire deal makes me angry.  As someone who would like to see Apple prosper (please do not interpret that to mean I’m a fangirl) I just can’t wrap my head around this deal.  I will admit, I purchased a pair of craptastic Beats earbuds recently (read: within the past year) and was gravely disappointed.  How could headphones cost this much and sound so horrible?  At that point I ended any dealings with Beats.  So when I heard that Apple purchased Beats…it was just a sad day.

Google Glass: The Tech You Love To Hate(?)

Tax Day (4.15.14) was the day to become a Glasshole part of Google’s Glass Explorer program.  For a mere $1500 any one was  able to purchase Glassware without an invite from The Goog.  The Explorer Bundle included a Glass headset, frames (optional), a mono earbud, your choice of sunglass frame, charger and a pouch.   Because most of us tech geeks already wear regular glasses, Google has made very basic hipster-like frames (offered for free yesterday,  regular retail cost *read: what I paid* $225), with a special cut out for the Glass head set.  Lenses for these frames can be ordered by searching through Google’s Preferred Provider Network of eyecare professionals.  These providers will custom fit your Glassware to your frames  enhancing your experience (Glass lenses are only available at a prescription up to +/-4).  There is also an option  (in NY or LA) to go to a Glass Boutique and have your Glassware fitted professionally which includes a short tutorial on all that things your new tech can do.
