Imagine drinking a Coke while sitting in a car that has seats made out of…..plastic Coke bottles. That is exactly what Coca-Cola and Ford are aiming to do with its recyclable polyethylene terephthalate bottles. Ford has plans to use this technology in it’s Ford Fusion Energi models, currently only one of them is outfitted with the seats and that’s a demo car for the LA Auto show.
“We hope to drive awareness that PlantBottle Technology can be used across the entire polyester universe – in everything from the inside of a car, to carpet, to clothing,” said Scott Vitters, general manager of PlantBottle for Coca-Cola. “Ford is highlighting the potential for a future of renewably sourced, low-carbon polyester that can be recycled again and again.”
