HTC To Launch Wearable Device This Year

Bloomberg is reporting that HTC will indeed venture into the wearable tech arena this year. There is no mention of what device HTC will be launching but we can assume it will be a smartwatch. With Samsung already in that market and rumors of Apple entering soon, it only makes sense. HTC is gambling on their new wearable tech as well as a revamped HTC One to drive it out of the hole it has been in the past few years.

“We feel positive and optimistic about 2014 when compared to 2013,” said Chang Chialin, chief financial officer.

“Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems,“these are customer-centric problems,” said Cher Wang, Chairman.

“To tell the truth, we never think marketing is that important — this is really not very good,” Wang said.

“It’s really not only the budget increase, it’s the way how you spend the money. Is it smart?” Wang said. “There’s a lot of ways to reach the audience right now.”

I love the HTC One, I owned it and still believe it was the best Android phone I have ever used. Let’s hope that HTC can turn things around with the new One. The wearable device is something else, it remains to be seen if any of major players wearables are going to take off or tank. I wish HTC all the luck in the world though, they make great products and I sure don’t want them to go away.
