Ride With Thorin One Last Time, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Trailer Goes Live

|

Peter Jackson and the crew at Warner Brothers have released the trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies after screening it for their Hall at ComicCon,  and now it’s on YouTube.

This is the final chapter in what is really Peter Jackson’s sextuplet of movies featuring the work of J.R.R. Tolkien.  This time, we witness the culmination of the events of the Hobbit as Smaug sets his eyes on Laketown and Gandalf continues his quest to discover the hidden menace and possible return of ancient enemies.  The Battle of the Five Armies is the name of the subsequent battle in the aftermath of Smaug’s tyrannical reign under the mountain.

Jackson has speculated that we will see Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel’s more combative side this go around and that this movie will be a sort of bridge to the Lord of the Rings stories which of course were meant as a sequel to The Hobbit. Regardless of how you may or may not feel about the films, Jackson’s stint as storyteller for the Middle Earth drama has meant a lot to a new generation discovering the fantasy realm for the first time.  Often, the Lord of the Rings movies (despite changes made) have been fantastic for bringing new life to Tolkien’s work.  With The Battle of the Five Armies, we will truly be saying goodbye to this movie phenomenon.  The final movie is set to release December of 2014.
