Will We Be Seeing A New Mazda RX-7 In 2016?

|

We have a good idea that Toyota may be resurrecting the Supra, one of the premier names in Japanese sports cars. Most are pointing to the FT-1 concept as the proof. So it stands to reason others might want to do the same for their resting monsters. Yahoo Autos is reporting that Mazda may be thinking of bringing back the RX-7 in 2016, which means the rotary engine will also return. The folks over at Bold Ride have a few renders of what a 2016 Mazda RX-7 might look like, check them out below.

The rumored specs for this thing include the return of the rotary engine, although Yahoo says it would be a hybrid rotary. The hope is for rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox along with a lightweight chassis. Yahoo is speculating that Mazda will not be trying to match the Supra’s muscle by offering a more mid-range power plant of 300-350 horsepower. That would place it more along the lines of the entry level Ford Mustang V6. But don’t dismay over the lighter load of horses, body weight, design and driving experience do count for something as well. Besides, how often are you going to use 500 horsepower? What do you think of this RX-7 concept and the rumors of its comeback? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+. Facebook and Twitter.
