Disney Announces Alice’s Return to Wonderland In Through the Looking Glass

|

The Disney Corp. announced today via their blog that the long awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland has a full cast featuring the return of most of the original cast and a premier date of May 27th, 2016.  Not many details are known about the script obviously but Tim Burton now steps into a producer role and the film will be directed by James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets: Most Wanted).

As far as actors go, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass will star Johnny Depp (The Mad Hatter), Mia Wasikowska (Alice), Helena Bonham Carter (The Red Queen), and Anne Hathaway (The White Queen). New additions to the cast for the film will include Sasha Baren Cohen as “Time”.

2010’s Alice in Wonderland is the 16th highest grossing film of all time and is a member of the “Billion Dollar Club” so it was a safe bet that a sequel was no doubt in the works. Linda Woolverton is the writer for the screenplay and she’s coming off another moderate success story for Disney with Maleficent which goes along with her string of “Girl Power” minded films. While critics were mixed on Alice, audiences seemed to like the adaption of Lewis Carroll’s delusional vision. Photography is soon to kick off I’m sure as there will be a good bit of visual effects added just like the first film. Bobin is a relative new comer to the big blockbuster arena but Disney did trust him with the Muppets on two films and both seemed to do well at the box office. So are you excited about a return to Underland?

Personally, I’d check this out for Alan Rickman’s Abselom alone (who is also returning for the sequel).

Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass will be in theaters May 2016.
