From the passing of Robin Williams to Michael Fassbender and Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Multiplayer we’ve covered a lot over the past week here at MOARGeek. Here’s a quick recap of some of the stories we covered.

Books

D&D fans rejoice – it’s a big year with the 40th anniversary and launch of the 5th edition rule set. Amazon and Audible have released a free 10 hour audio book collection featuring everyone’s favorite dark elf Drizzt Do’Urden titled The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories.

Comics

Is anyone really surprised? The success of Guardians of the Galaxy continues as our furry hero Rocket Racoon topped the comic book sales for July.

Movies

Michael Fassbender

Actor Michael Fassbender gave us a few hints about his involvment with the movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series. Definitely rich in history, it’ll be interesting to see if this will be one video game to silver screen adaptation that actual works and does well.

Sad times this week as actor and comedian Robin Williams passed away this week due to an apparent suicide. The staff here at MOARGeek and over at Techaeris gave our thoughts and memories about this talented actor.

Transformers 5 without Michael Bay?!? Say it ain’t so! Or rejoice depending on your opinions of Michael Bay movies.

Batman vs. Superman
Batman vs. Superman

Who thinks they can stop the Marvel movie juggernaut? Certainly not DC! They chickened out and pushed up the release date of Batman vs. Superman by six weeks to avoid opening the movie the same weekend as Marvel’s Captain America 3.

The 80’s let loose with the geeky movies – have a look at Alex Hernandez’s Top 5 Movie Geeks of the 80’s and let us know who your top 5 were!

Given the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, it seems like Marvel is eyeing another of it’s lesser known properties to bring to the big screen – INHUMANS. Vin Diesel wants a role in this one as well – this time in a non-speaking role. At least the ladies will be able to ogle over him this go around if he does get the role!

Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? Make a sequel of course! Martin Lawrence has confirmed Bad Boys 3 is in the works

The trailer for Elijah Wood’s latest thriller Open Windows was released this week… this one will probably have to wait for when it’s available for rent.

Leaked images supposedly from the set of Star Wars Episode VII just may be the new Stormtrooper helmet look – check them out and let us know what you think!

And last but not least… rumor has it that Marvel’s Avengers – Age of Ultron is coming to theatres in May 2015. If so, May can’t come soon enough!

Cars

As you may have heard, last week NASCAR driver Tony Stewart was involved in an accident that claimed the life of sprint car driver Kevin Ward Jr. NASCAR has looked at the incident and as a result have implemented a new rule which states that drivers must not exit their car after an accident. What do you think of the new ruling?

Gaming

It’s all Sunshine & Slaughter in Deep Silver’s trailer for the upcoming Dead Island 2 gameplay trailer released earlier this week. Hopefully the franchise holds up under the developmental reigns of YAGER after Techland passed it over due to focusing on other projects.

Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart 8 gamers FINALLY get an on-screen map – in addition to three new (and free) Mercedes-Benz karts – in the first big update to the game. How the heck do you not include an on-screen map with a racing game?

Big week in games at Gamescon 2014 this week – check out what Xbox showcased for the Xbox One. Feel free to check out what games we’re playing here at MOARGeek as well!

Fans of the 1992 SEGA CD full motion video game Night Trap? You might get a chance to relive the experience as the game was originally intended with this Kickstarter.

First announced at E3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games & Activision held a press conference at Gamescon earlier this week to introduce gamers to the multiplayer aspect of the game. Sounds like more of the same “rewards for how long you play” as previous installments of the series – which is just fine for some gamers. Check out what’s new and our thoughts on the additions to the game.

Seems the gaming industry is all about pushing exclusives… a bit of a bombshell was dropped this week at Gamescon when it was announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox One exclusive. What the heck are they thinking?!?

Silent-Hill-Screenshot
Norman Reedus in Silent Hills

Kojima + del Toro + Reedus = Silent Hills?!? Oh my! Gamers were teased at Gamescon with a playable demo with a fake name that ended up being a preview for the next installment in the Silent Hill franchise.

As mentioned above, Robin Williams passed away earlier this week. An avid gamer, it looks like Williams will live on as an NPC in Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft. Might just be worth logging back into the game just for that!

King’s Quest returns! Well, sort of… check out what Activision has in store for the Sierra name and King’s Quest.

Sick and tired of getting obliterated in Hearthstone? Blizzard aims to change that by featuring pro streamers.

Assassin’s Creed Unity Presents: Rob Zombie’s French Revolution

What happens when Ubisoft teams up with Rob Zombie and Tony Moore? You get Assassin’s Creed Presents: Rob Zombie’s French Revolution. Warning – not for the faint of heart!

Blizzard announced another expansion for their popular MMORPG World of Warcraft – Warlords of Draenor. With membership declining, do you think another expansion and new content can bring gamers back to Blizzard’s game?

Pop Culture

odaiba-gundam
RX-78-2 Gundam

We started off the week with a little Gundam style! The Gundam Global Challenge has big plans for a 1/1 scale Gundam that ACTUALLY MOVES by 2019.

Arguably, one of the fan favorites from Guardians of the Galaxy is none other than…. Groooooooooooot! And what’s a Friday without a little dancing Groot? C’mon Marvel – where’s the dancing Groot toy we can buy already?!?

TV

Going through Breaking Bad withdrawals? AMC gave us a very brief glimpse of their upcoming spin-off series Better Call Saul.

The-Simpsons
The Simpsons

You can never have enough Simpsons! FXX has released a trailer for their upcoming 552-episode Simpsons marathon.

That about wraps up our first week in review – look for our recap every Sunday for a quick glance at what you may have missed over the past week. As always, the staff here at MOARGeek thanks you – our readers – for checking us out throughout the week and thank you for your continued support. After all, we write because we love to share what interests us and keep you informed on geek stuff from around the world!
