Update: The Rock Officially Confirms His Role For DC’s Shazam

|

We here at Moargeek reported not long ago that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was alluding to playing either the heroic Shazam or the anti-heroic Black Adam for an upcoming DC universe film to follow Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Today, via Johnson’s Twitter acccount, the Rock has confirmed he shall indeed play….Black Adam.

The tweet comes after a long period of Johnson teasing fans as to where he was gonna fall even being rumored to be playing the popular Lobo character at one point. Variety reports that Darren Lemke (Shrek 4, Turbo, Goosebumps) will be working on a script and in the meantime we get the fun task of speculating who will be standing up against the Rock as the heroic Shazam. No one at this time is mentioned as a standout candidate for the hero role, but whoever it is has their work cut out for them holding their ground on screen against Johnson who is all but a walking talking super hero in real life.

Black Adam having a more anti-heroic angle might let the Rock finally delve into a villain role that isn’t something a lot of his movie franchises have let him portray. While his role as The Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns was certainly a bad guy, his stand alone origin story for that character made him an  warrior hero anyway. All this being said, we’ve got a long way to go till we see the Rock invoking the magic word SHAZAM which will give us time to absorb the fallout of Batman v Superman and a heavily riddled calendar of comic book movies coming up in the next couple of years.
