Weekly Rewind: Marvel, Marvel, umm More Marvel, Furious 7, Reviews, and more – Oct 26-Nov 1

|

From flippin’ huge Marvel news and sneak peeks to Furious 7 announcements and a few reviews, we’ve covered a lot over the past week here at MOARGeek. Here’s a quick recap of some of the stories we covered in our Weekly Rewind.

Books

Optimized-IronThrone
George R.R. Martin’s A World of Fire and Ice released this week.

While everyone is waiting not-so-patiently for the next book in the A Song of Fire and Ice series, A World of Fire and Ice – the compendium for George R.R. Martin’s popular series – released earlier this week.

Movies

Big week for The Fast and the Furious franchise. The first official poster and confirmation of the name for the upcoming Furious 7 were released by Universal Pictures earlier this week, and yesterday the first trailer for the flick hit YouTube.

ICYMI, check out last week’s weekend at the box office as Stiles White’s directorial debut Ouija came out of the gate swinging, bringing in $20 million over the weekend to top the action revenge film John Wick.

Hulkbuster-Iron-Man
Hulkbuster!

Holy Marvel, Batman! First off, Benedict Cumberbatch was announced to star as Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Then Marvel announced phase 3 film names and release dates including Thor 3, Captain America 3, Avengers 3, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and more. Marvel finished off the week with another sneak peak at Avengers: Age of Ultron!

Universal Pictures gave us some juicy info about the upcoming Coen Brothers comedy titled Hail, Caesar in a press release – including release date, cast, and some plot details.

Gaming

Virtually nothing is known about Telltate Games’ upcoming adventure based on HBO’s Game of Thrones, but we may finally have a hint at a release date!

X-Wing
Who remembers this classic?

Disney quietly released a batch of classic games from Lucasarts to GOG.com. Among them are X-Wing and TIE Fighter being released for the first time digitally. A couple of great classics there!

If there’s a will, there’s a way. Some gamers try and get any advantage they can these days. Blizzard has had enough, and has revealed in a recent developer blog post that they have banned several thousand Hearthstone accounts suspected of using bots in the online game.

Yay! Nintendo has revealed the first of eight tracks coming to Mario Kart 8‘s DLC Pack 1 and it is a tribute to Excitebike. We know Matt’s super excited!

Gamers who purchased the PS3 or Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto V are in for a treat. Forget about those GTA V heists you’ve been wanting for over a year. Those who upgrade will receive a new submarine, a monkey suit, a rail gun, and $1 million of in-game currency!

Welcome to the pre-download party Wii-U!
Welcome to the pre-download party Wii-U!

And the last of the next (current?) gen consoles is finally getting pre-loading, but if Nintendo wants anyone to convert entirely to digital gaming on the Wii-U, they still have a lot of work to do.

Free is free, right? Maybe not… November’s Xbox Live Games with Gold program leaves something to be desired with one new offering for the Xbox One and a couple of older games for the 360.

Can’t make it to Blizzcon? It’s fast approaching and is here this week. Your time to buy a $40 virtual ticket is winding down if you are interested in exclusive streams and content from the event.

Music

Jack Bruce, vocals and bass player for Cream, has passed away at the age of 71. While most won’t recognize the name, all will recognize his voice and bass. You’ll be missed Jack, RIP!

david-gilmour-tour-2015
David Gilmour speaks about a solo album and touring in 2015!

David Gilmour says he will release a new solo album in 2015 and may embark on an “old man tour”. As for Pink Floyd, The Endless River is their last effort.

Pop Culture

Well, the last place you’d expect to take your kids to learn is launching an education program. Chuck E. Cheese has announced plans to begin testing an educational game-based program for kids ages 3-12 at select locations.

TV

During an episode of The Colbert Report earlier this week, Stephen Colbert announced the official end date of the nine-year-old show as December 19th.

Reviews

Justin reviews last week
Justin reviews last week’s The Walking Dead. Catch up in time for tonight’s episode!

Justin Jelinik took a stab at this week’s The Walking Dead review because someone *cough* Matt *cough* forgot what time it started! All kidding aside, check out the recap of Four Walls and a Roof, or “what to expect when you’re expecting cannibals,” on last week’s episode of The Walking Dead.

South Park S18:E5 didn’t provide a ton of laughs, but it was perfectly on point with its parodies of #GamerGate, Ferguson, and celebrity nude picture leaks.

Constantine follows up its fantastic pilot with another good episode by taking down coal demons in rural Pennsylvania, and meeting a new ally. Check out our review!

Keanu Reeves is back in John Wick.
Keanu Reeves is back in John Wick.

Matt Lyons takes a look as Keanu Reeves back in fighting form in the violent, stylish, smartly made (if a bit flawed), and most of all fun John Wick.

That about wraps up our Weekly Rewind – look for our recap every Sunday for a quick glance at what you may have missed over the past week. As always, the staff here at MOARGeek thanks you – our readers – for checking us out throughout the week and thank you for your continued support. After all, we write because we love to share what interests us and keep you informed on geek stuff from around the world!
