Official Ant-Man Synopsis Released, Hints At Avengers Appearance (Maybe)

Marvel has released the first official Ant-Man synopsis. As you’d expect from the synopsis, it does not tell us a whole lot about the movie, and what it does reveal is done so in the vaguest terms possible. Most of what is told is information we already knew, such as the fact that it revolves around Paul Rudd playing master thief Scott Lang, Dr. Hank Pym (the original Ant-Man in the Marvel comics) has been reduced to an old mentor role, and the fact that Ant-Man can shrink and grow in size and strength.

It did however assign some solid cast names to their roles. We now know that Wood Harris is playing Gale, Judy Greer is playing Maggie, and Bob Cannavale is playing Paxton.

If you’re interested in some good old fashion over-analyzing, the fact that the synopsis mentions Ant-Man as “a founding member of The Avengers” could be slight hint that the hero could make a cameo in the upcoming Age of Ultron. It would fit canonically, as Hank Pym was the one who invented Ultron in the comic universe. While it’s already been confirmed with recent trailers that Tony Stark created Ultron in the Marvek cinematic universe, it wouldn’t hurt to have Ant-Man make a small appearance as a nod to his true origins. And who could object to more Paul Rudd?

The fact that they would even mention it in the synopsis, and not just restart his persona over from scratch, makes me curious.

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in
scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo
and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” delivers a high-stakes, tension-filled adventure on July 17, 2015.

Writing credits are still to be determined (TBD).
