It’s here! After teasing us with ant-sized trailers and ant-sized posters for the past week, Marvel has finally unveiled the first official Ant-Man trailer. The two-minute teaser initially aired during ABC’s Agent Carter and was uploaded shortly afterwards to YouTube for the general public to see Paul Rudd in all his splendor. Check it out below.
This first look at Paul Rudd’s interpretation of the petty criminal-turned-superhero Ant-Man gives us our first few glimpses of his suit, as well as Paul Rudd’s comedic acting chops.
Most of the screen time is filled up with Michael Douglas talking to Paul Rudd’s character, Scott Lang, as he recruits him into becoming the hero. It appears that Douglas’ character, Hank Pym, who is the original Ant-Man in the comic book series (as well as the creator of Ultron, but that likely won’t make its way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe), is the mentor of sorts for Lang that we all expected. He gives him the usual spiel of great power comes great responsibility, and is clearly giving Lang a second chance after catching him in the act.
Definitely the most interesting parts of the trailer were the glimpses at the Ant-Man costume itself, as well as some brief moments of Lang in ant form. There is clearly going to be some Iron Man-esque learning montages or periods of screw-ups, as we see Lang struggle to work with the suit for a brief few seconds.
Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Corey Stoll, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly. It is directed by Peyton Reed and has a scheduled release date of July 17th, 2015.
