Heroes of the Storm Closed Beta Brings New Content and Ranked Play

Gaming / PC

The Heroes of the Storm Closed Beta begins tomorrow, January 13th. Blizzard’s MOBA has been in its Technical Alpha stage for months now, and with the Closed Beta launch will be bringing another new hero, new battleground, and ranked play into the game.
The new hero that we’ll be seeing will be none other than Thrall, Warchief of the orcish Horde in Blizzard’s Warcraft series. Along with Thrall, you’ll be able to pick up Master Thrall and Hellhammer Thrall skins, as well as a number of new skins for other characters and two new mounts to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the new Sky Temple battleground map.

  • Elder Chen
  • Crypt King Tassadar
  • Festival Li Li
  • Luxorian Monkey Brightwing
  • Desert Queen Zagara
  • Lunar Tiger Mount
  • Magic Carpet Mount

Ranked Play is also being introduced with the addition of the Hero League game mode. The game mode will allow players to enter solo or in a group and through a draft mode will select their team to take on other players in the various battlegrounds available. Because the Hero League utilizes a draft mode, players will only be able to enter it if they are Player Level 30 or higher and own 10 or more heroes, as there cannot be duplicate heroes on the same team. As well, Versus mode has been renamed Quick Match as both modes involve teams of players battling it out. More details about Hero League and Draft Mode are available on Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm website.

Hopefully the Closed Beta launch will also come with a new round of invites for those who have signed up and are waiting to play. If you haven’t opted-in yet, there’s still time!
