Instead of just sitting on the couch and watching The Simpsons, gamers will now be able to play as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie when the Minecraft Simpsons Skin Pack comes out for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles in February.
Microsoft hasn’t wasted any time after purchasing Minecraft last year, and both Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox), and Roz Nowicki (executive vice president of global sales and retail for Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products) are excited to bring The Simpsons content packs to the Xbox consoles.
“We have an active community of more than 17 million die-hard Minecrafters on Xbox Live enjoying the wide range of downloadable content on Xbox, and they have been clamoring for us to bring Simpsons characters to the game,” said Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox. “We are thrilled to partner with Twentieth Century Fox and Gracie Films to bringThe Simpsons to life on Minecraft Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions. I can’t wait to see what the community creates.”
In addition to the entire Simpsons family, the skin pack will also including 19 characters from Springfield Elementary School. It’s interesting they seem to be focusing on these characters, one can only assume that additional packs will be coming down the road with other popular characters from the show like Apu, Chief Wiggum, or Krusty. It’ll be interesting to see if a texture pack will be released as well, turning Minecraft worlds into virtual Springfields.
The skins do look a bit different from the traditional Minecraft skin packs which usually retain the basic Minecraft character shape and rely on changing the color of various pixels within the shape to discern between different characters. With The Simpsons content pack however, additional blocks are added to give the skins a more recognizable Simpsons look. The content packs will be available near the end of February and set you back a whopping $1.99USD.
“Like The Simpsons, Minecraft is a true cultural phenomenon embraced by people of all ages, from every corner of the globe,” said Roz Nowicki, executive vice president of global sales and retail for Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. “We know fans of the show will have a ton of fun bringing the colorful characters of Springfield into the intricate worlds they’ve been building in Minecraft.”
I know my son’s head is going to explode when he hears this news, let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Facebook, or Twitter if you plan on picking up this latest skin pack for Minecraft on the Xbox One or Xbox 360.
