Consider this your first spoiler warning, this post is going to be potentially loaded with them. Ever since it was announced that a new Star Wars film was about to become reality, the Internet has been clamoring to hear even the smallest bit of information regarding the Episode VII plot. Rumors have come in from all kinds of sources, with ranging levels of credibility. This latest rumor comes from MakingStarWars.net, a blog that has been at this whole Episode VII rumor thing before the film was even a lens flare in J.J. Abrams’ eye. They have had some misses, but if you dig back through their posts, they’ve also had quite a few hits.
We’ve reported on some of them, such as the leaked design of the stormtrooper helmet that turned out to be true, and we’ve debunked some, such as the Episode VII trailer “leak” that wasn’t really a leak at all. Heck, I have even had my own personal crazy theory where I suggest that Gwendoline Christie was a Sith based on her walking pattern.
As with most rumors, you can take this new one with a grain of salt if you wish, but it honestly sounds pretty credible and like something a real studio would do rather than a bizarre fan fiction “leak.” Making Star Wars editor Jason Ward goes through the whole spiel of how he came about the information, without being able to say any specific details, and then it gets to the good parts. He asserts that the following bullet list of sequences are confirmed to have been filmed at Pinewood Studios in London, where filming for The Force Awakens is taking place.
SPOILER WARNING 2.0 (last chance)
Alright, so pulled straight from the post on Making Star Wars, here is the supposed list of true things that really happened during filming at Pinewood.
- This sequence takes place on the ramparts of The Evil Castle.
- Han Solo is hiding.
- He decides to reveal himself to Kylo Renn.
- Finn, Rey, Chewbacca and BB-8 stop in their tracks.
- They watch as Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren. Kylo Rnn silences the conversation forever.
- Chewbacca lets out of a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts.
- Kylo Ren flees the scene.
- Explosions.
- Stormtroopers file in and Finn and Rey are forced to flee.
- More explosions.
- BB-8 and Chewbacca flee to the Falcon.
The implication being of course that Han Solo, intergalactic rogue, smuggler, and smooth-talking heartthrob of the ’80s is dead.
If these turn out to be true, it would make a lot of sense. Harrison Ford (who plays Solo) is the oldest of the returning big three from the original trilogy. At 72 years as of today, he would be approaching 80 once more of the main films start to hit every other year, so it may make sense to kill off his character now while the going is good than waiting until Ford is even older and can do even less action scenes. This scenario would also mirror the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s death, where both of the elder characters are sacrificing themselves to save the younger character (as well as Luke).
And what better way for Abrams to say “this isn’t George Lucas’ Star Wars” than by murdering one off his most iconic characters? Personally, I can’t wait to see it unfold if it’s true.
