In the ever increasing battle for the living room, companies are trying to figure out how to outclass the competition in what is slowly becoming a crowded market. QEUS is the latest console announced for the home from snakebyte, a gaming accessories and consumer electronics manufacturer. The console isn’t simply a TV set top box, but aims to include gaming and the ability to control smart home appliances as well.

“QEUS is designed with the user in mind and much more than a simple SmartTV box”, Mike Steup, CEO of the snakebyte group explains. “Instead of limiting the functions and offering a closed system, we deliver all the features that will satisfy both, people just entering the SmartTV segment as well as advanced users. With QEUS the consumer won’t only be able to use SmartTV functions including streaming content from his favorite services. He will also be able to control smart home appliances and play high-end games. The latter will not only be possible with games being installed directly on the device: QEUS’ hardware is also optimized for cloud gaming and in-home streaming.

QEUS is powered by a Rockchip RK3288 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A17 processer with 2GB RAM and will allow gaming at 1080p/60fps and 4Kx2K playback. The system will also support microSD cards up to 64GB, and include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI 2.0, 5.1 Digital Surround Sound, and more. QEUS also includes DLNA support for streaming from home networks and will come with the Google Play Store with plans for a dedicated snakebyte GameStore coming in the future.

An interesting component to the console is a two-sided Motion Remote which will include navigation keys, media functions and Android shortkeys on the front. Flip it over and you’ll see a full QWERTY keyboard. The motion remote features six-axis motion sensor control for motion controlled gaming. What snakebyte is hoping will also set the QEUS apart is “a high-end gaming controller with low latency, which comes with two analog sticks, digital thumbpad and all necessary buttons for serious gaming.” Over 10 accessories, including fitness boards, microphones, steering wheels, and others are planned and will expand the system into what snakebyte calls the ‘World of QEUS’.

QEUS – Power equals SmarterTV

snakebyte announces powerful SmartTV set-top box combining SmartTV, Gaming Console and Smart Home functionality in one user-friendly open system

Mobile World Congress, BARCELONA (Spain), and DORTMUND (Germany), March 2015 snakebyte, the successful manufacturer of gaming accessories and consumer electronics, pushes the boundaries of the SmartTV market with the unveiling of the new QEUS set-top box at the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Spain).

Furthermore, QEUS perfectly integrates into existing home networks, streaming media content via DLNA to the living room or dedicated home cinema. Directly connected USB storage devices can be used for media playback. Both features are definitely a huge advantage against existing TV boxes like the Apple TV or Amazon’s fireTV. Unlike other systems, QEUS offers full access to the Google Play Store. On top of that, a dedicated snakebyte GameStore, powered by global digital commerce provider Nexway, will become available in the future. We can’t add more details right now, but our aim is to deliver the user with any freedom possible plus tailor made options combined with powerful hardware with an attractive design and price point.”

QEUS’ heart is the Rockchip RK3288 quad-core Cortex-Al7 processor. This high performance application processor with up to 1.8 GHz lives up to any expectations, SmartTV and gaming enthusiasts may have. As such, it delivers unmatched power including 1080p@60fps as well as 4Kx2K playback. Further specs and features are 2 GB RAM, up to 64 GB external storage through MicroSD cards, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI 2.0, 5.1 Digital Surround Sound, and much more.

When QEUS launches in summer, a high quality two-sided Motion Remote will also be available. On the remote’s front users will find the usual navigation keys, including media functions and Android shortcut keys. The back will feature a full QWERTY keyboard, making any kind of lengthy text input, e.g. on social networks, extremely convenient. In addition, the  remote features six-axis  motion sensor control, ensuring perfect playability of motion controlled games.

Additionally available peripherals emphasize on QEUS’ role as a serious gaming console, including the high-end gaming controller with low latency, which comes with two analog sticks, digital thumbpad and all necessary buttons for serious gaming. Fitness boards, microphones, steering wheels and a total of 10+ accessories will become available to build a whole ‘World of QEUS’.

“With all the power and possibilities on offer, we understand QEUS as much more than a typical SmartTV set-top box. QEUS defines a new category, which we understand as ‘Smart Media Console'”, Mike Steup says.

snakebyte will soon reveal further information including release date and pricing, which will be below 100 USD.
