The Nexus 5 Has Been Discontinued

Well folks, if you have took a look recently at the new Google Store you may have noticed something that is now missing from Google’s device arsenal.  Yes, as the title mentions, the Nexus 5 has been discontinued.  I realize that there will be a fair amount of people who already have a Nexus 6 in their possession and have moved on, but for those of us who simply fell in love with its simple and elegant design this is a sad time indeed.

The device did not come without a fair amount of animosity. There was the old (and valid to an extent) argument that the battery life was horrible. This can be excused however since the Nexus 5 was only packing a 2300mah battery out of the box. Not necessarily a Nexus 6 size battery yes?  For those of us running multiple apps that are syncing social media apps like Facebook, Google + and Twitter, well that can be true. Others complained of a low quality and out of place speaker but there were tweaks for that if you were rooted.

However if you were mindful of its shortcomings the device was stellar, especially after receiving an update to Android Lollipop.  The phone was the perfect size in my humble opinion, and stood out in today’s day and age (and hopefully a phase) of the almighty phablet. So, love it or hate it, the Nexus 5 is gone.  Fear not though Android aficionados. Just because the device is no longer being sold by Google, rest easy in the fact that it will still be receiving quick updates to Android for a tad longer. The device will also expand on its life span with the Android development community for a good while where it is still very much alive and strong. But if you were looking to purchase one from Google, well, that time has come to an end.  Goodbye Nexus 5, we will miss you.
