Comedy Central has confirmed that comedian, talk show host, and The Daily Show contributor Trevor Noah will be replacing longtime host Jon Stewart later this year. Ever since Jon Stewart let slip to a pre-show crowd that he’d be leaving his role as host of The Daily Show, the internet has been scrutinizing every move the show and its many personalities make to try and sort out who will actually replace Stewart. They were wrong – several times – but finally nailed it when rumors started to pop up last week about Trevor Noah taking the helm.
Noah has been a part of The Daily Show as a contributor since 2014. Prior to that he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2012, as well as Late Show with David Letterman. In his native country of South Africa, Noah has risen to be one of the country’s top comedians and even hosted his own talk show, Tonight with Trevor Noah. As expected, Noah seems gracious for, and excited about, the opportunity to take over for Jon Stewart.

Jon Stewart will be leaving The Daily Show later this year after nearly twenty years behind the desk of the satirical political news show. Stewart has served as not only host, but also executive producer and writer. Of the switch to the new host, Stewart remains excited about the future of the show, even if he may not be a part of it.

This host switch will mark the final stage of an upheaval to Comedy Central’s late night political programming. The Colbert Report, which ran from 2005 to 2014 and was hosted by Stephen Colbert, was replaced with The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in January. Colbert left the position to take over as host for Late Show when David Letterman retires sometime this year.
No exact date is given for when the switch will happen, only that Trevor Noah will take over sometime in 2015.
