After announcing the PlayStation Music service back in January, Sony has officially ditched their Music Unlimited service and replaced it with Spotify on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Xperia devices. The exclusive partnership allows Sony to offer more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists for users in 41 countries around the world.

A big feature of the service will allow gamers to use PlayStation Music to listen to the songs they want while gaming, and the Spotify Connect feature on the Android and iOS app will allow them to select playlists, skip songs, and adjust the volume while listening to music on their consoles.

Both free and premium versions of Spotify will be available, and new and existing Spotify users can receive a one month free trial to the premium service if they haven’t already done so, and Music Unlimited subscribers who were active as of March 29 will receive 2 free months of Spotify Premium as well.

In order to use Spotify on your console, simply follow the steps below:

  1. On your PS4 console, click on the PlayStation Music icon on your content launcher. On your PS3 console, click on the music icon on the XMB™.
  2. Follow the prompts to download the Spotify app.
  3. Open the Spotify app.
  4. Follow the prompts to log in or create a new account, then link your Spotify account to your account on PlayStation Network**.
  5. Enjoy Spotify playlists and features just as you would on any other device with Spotify.

If you own an Xperia device, simply download the Spotify app from Google Play and link it to your PlayStation account. Sony notes that if you are already signed in on your Xperia device, you will have to log out before you are prompted to link your accounts.

  1. Download or update the Spotify app from Google Play.
  2. Open the Spotify app.
  3. Follow the prompts to log in or create a new account, then to link your Spotify account to your account on PlayStation Network**.
  4. Enjoy Spotify playlists and features just as you would on any other device with Spotify.
