The much-anticipated collaboration between Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima, Silent Hills, has been officially cancelled.
The game was originally announced in 2014 with P.T. (Playable Teaser), Konami’s sneaky addition to the PlayStation Store. This teaser left fans of the franchise and horror genre wanting more, but unfortunately, that will no longer be happening.
The game was meant to be a collaboration project between Guillermo del Toro, most known for Pan’s Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies, and Hideo Kojima, most known for his work on Metal Gear Solid. Silent Hills was also set to be lead by Norman Reedus, known for his roles in The Walking Dead and Boondock Saints.
This star-studded project first began its tailspin when rumors started emerging that relations between Kojima and Konami, the Japanese game publisher, were souring. Earlier this weekend, del Toro publicly stated that the game had met its end, and this morning Konami made it official in this statement to Kotaku.
Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.
In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
