PlanetSide 2 is a massive online first person shooter that is finally coming to PlayStation 4. The free to play sequel is set to be released on June 23rd according to the PlayStation Blog. The game currently holds the Guinness World Record for the largest multiplayer game with an impressive 1,158 players in a single online battle.
PlanetSide 2 has been in a closed beta for the past couple of months while they’ve been working out the kinks and getting it ready for full release. The battles take place between hundreds of players instead of your average 4 to 8 man teams and can also last for days or weeks. The maps span multiple kilometers and there are ground and air vehicles as well as squads of troops fighting alongside the vehicles. PlayStation said in a statement:
We’ve put a lot of effort into streamlining and improving the feature set so that PlayStation 4 players will have the ultimate massive-scale, FPS gaming experience. We’ve also incorporated some unique features that are currently exclusive to the PS4 version, which for example, include the new battle map, Koltyr. We will continue to further improve and enhance the gameplay experience after launch as well. In the weeks and months following the release on 23/6, players can look forward to frequent game updates, which will include deeper features, holiday events and content, new in-game marketplace items and much, much more.
The game itself has three empires you can choose from, New Conglomerate, Terran Republic, or Vanu Sovereignty. Within the empire you choose one of 6 classes, Combat Medic, Light Assault, Heavy Assault, Engineer, MAX, or Infiltrator. The battles can take place anywhere, in fields, in urban settings, or within buildings.
The game will be free to play and if you wish you can buy their proprietary currency called daybreak cash which will let you purchase additional load outs, sinks, and other cosmetic items for your characters.[button type=”link” link=”http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2015/06/03/massive-online-shooter-planetside-2-gets-ps4-release-date/?emcid=social_20150603_46901736″ variation=”btn-danger” target=”blank”]Source: PlayStation.Blog[/button]
