News has surfaced that tough guy Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, has joined the Ghostbusters reboot. The role he has been selected for may surprise you…
The Ghostbusters reboot has been in the works for some time now, and the biggest change from the original 80s versions of the movies is the all-female Ghostbusters team comprised of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Hemsworth joins the team as… the receptionist! This completes the main role reversals from the original movies as Annie Potts held that role in the original series.
This is an interesting turn of roles for Hemsworth who’s played more serious roles such as in Thor, Rush, and Snow White and the Huntsman. He will also appear in the remake of the comedic Vacation movies as well later this summer indicating that he is branching out, perhaps to avoid getting typecast as a one type role actor. From his brief clip in the Vacation trailer, he does look like he can live up to a more comedic role and it’ll be interesting for sure to see him as the receptionist for the all-female Ghostbusters team.
Ghostbusters is slated to be released next summer on July 22, 2016.
