Batman v Superman: Video Confirms Tao Okamoto Is Mercy Graves

There’s a new piece to move to the ‘Confirmed’ pile of Batman v Superman scoops. A trailer breakdown by DC All Access confirms suspicions that Tao Okamoto will play Mercy Graves in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Though initially revealed by Warner Bros. Pictures to be a character created specifically for the film, it’s now certain the Japanese actress has been cast from the existing DC Comics roster.

Mercy Graves doubled up as Lex Luthor’s assistant and bodyguard for the first time in the 1996 Superman: The Animated Series. Lisa Edelstein voiced the character. Like another female DC character who’s been getting a lot of attention of late – Harley Quinn, Graves made the transition to the comic book continuity following a stint on TV.

This isn’t Okamoto’s first time signing up for a spot on a comic book movie franchise. The actress starred opposite Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine in her debut acting assignment. She may also be known to fans of TV’s Hannibal as Chiyo, from Season 3 of the show.

Henry Cavill is back as Clark Kent/Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. His last outing in the blue suit and exposed trunks was lackluster, with many believing Man of Steel to have shortchanged the iconic character. Sticking with the theme of polarizing choices, Ben Affleck will appear as the Caped Crusader in the film. Not since Gigli has Affleck received such strong negative reactions to a role. That’s a lot of flak to take for a movie that isn’t out yet.

Batman v Superman has a lot to live up to. Affleck takes over from Christian Bale, whose Batman was possibly the most refreshingly complex superhero ever on film. Henry Cavill will be looking to prove Superman isn’t his Kryptonite. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25, 2016 worldwide.
