Next Up From Fox: Prison Break Revival

Fox seems to be reveling in nostalgia lately. Nerds everywhere had to take a moment to catch their breath after Fox announced the limited run of an X-Files continuation. Next up, Fox has ordered a ten episode continuation of the popular inmate simulator: Prison Break.

The 10 episode run is said to take place two or three years after the end of the end of the original series. Series stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller will return to play tough-but-lovable-and-framed-for-murder Lincoln Burrows and his brooding-but-dreamy-with-escape-plans-galore brother, Michael Scofield. If you don’t want parts of the original Prison Break story line spoiled, maybe don’t read the next few paragraphs.

I know what you’re thinking: Didn’t Scofield die at the end of the series? Yup, he sure did. Pretty convincingly too if I remember correctly. We’re not talking “Jon Snow dead” or anything here either. After giving show creator Paul Scheuring a huge vote of confidence by saying “I don’t think Paul knows exactly where he’s going over the 10-episode arc,” Fox Co-Chairman Dana Walden addressed the elephant in the room about returning characters:

“What [Paul] pitched to us was a very logical and believable – in the world of Prison Break – explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world.”

I guess I could see Scofield’s death as having been fake and he could have perhaps been caught instead, though that still creates more questions that the revival would be forced to answer. We’ll just have to wait and see what they end up doing.

Prison Break originally aired from 2005 – 2009 with the finale TV movie Prison Break: The Final Break releasing on DVD and Blu-Ray in July of 2009. The ten episode revival has been slated for 2016, with no more precise date yet given.
