Lenovo has always been synonymous with powerful mobile workstations. Just mentioning Lenovo, one immediately thinks of the variety of ThinkPads the company has put together. Well today is no different as Lenovo just announced two new mobile workstations at the SIGGRAPH 2015 Conference and Exhibition earlier today. According to Victor Rios, vice president and general manager, Workstations, Lenovo, the company has done the impossible with the new P50 and P70 mobile workstations.

“We’ve built features into these machines that were previously unachievable in a notebook, making them the most versatile and highest-performing mobile workstations ever,” he said. “We’re focused on making sure users have the tools necessary to drive innovation. That is why we are expanding our portfolio and raising the standard of mobile workstation performance. Introducing the ThinkPad P Series unites our mobile portfolio with our existing award-winning line of tower workstations, the ThinkStation P Series.

Both the Thinkpad P50 and P70 pack two newly made, sixth generation mobile Xeon processors from the E3-1500M v5 product family. The P50 sports a 15.6-inch UHD display at a 4K resolution. It features X-Rite® Pantone® color calibration that boasts absolute accurate colors for the life of the laptop. The P70 sports the same display features but kicks it up a notch by adding a 17-inch display. Those who like touch-screens will be happy to know that they can get the p70 with an FHD touch display.

Both devices support up to 64GB of DDR4 EEC memory and NVIDIA’s Quadro GPUs. Greg Estes, vice president of Enterprise Marketing, NVIDIA, said that its the companies most advanced graphics tech.

Workstation users need the best graphics performance possible to harness the full potential of their professional applications,” he said.  “By using NVIDIA Quadro mobile GPUs, the Lenovo ThinkPad P Series will provide customers with the most advanced graphics technology available to achieve the highest quality results, regardless of the task.”

There’s also a brand new FLEX Performance Cooling System. The cooling system allows for quieter and faster performance, all while keeping the device cool with a dual-fan system. The P50 is designed — and certified — to handle users’ most requested independent vendor software (IVS) applications and the P70 is designed to handle up to four storage devices, including up to a terabyte of SSD storage.

The devices are slated to arrive this year, more specifically the fourth quarter of this year. While they won’t come cheap, the P50 starts out at $1,599 and the P70 will start out at $1,999, these devices should be able to handle anything you throw at them, and then some.
