When it comes to Andrew Garfield’s interpretation of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, people fall into two camps. There are those who absolutely hated his interpretation, while others liked it. He was set to reprise the roll in the third Amazing Spider-Man movie, but then Sony and Marvel struck a deal to allow Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and as such, the role to be recast.
The deal came as Marvel prepares for Captain America 3: Civil War. For those who haven’t read the comic, Spider-Man plays a pretty important role. Well as the role for Spider-Man came up, there were a few in the running, with Tom Holland ultimately being cast to play Peter Parker. Andrew Garfield, although vocal about the second Amazing Spider-Man‘s issues, has been pretty quiet when it comes to being out as Spidey. That said, he’s opened up on Holland as Spider-Man in an interview with ET and he’s pretty supportive of the casting decision.
“It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor,” he said. “He was in this movie The Impossible and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor.”
Not only that, but Garfield told ET he’s ready to be a fan again rather than carry the burden of one of Marvel’s iconic super heroes.
“I’m just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it,” he said.
We’ll get our first peek at Holland’s interpretation of Peter Parker when Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016. Holland will go on to reprise the role in the summer of 2017 on July 28.
While we’re all excited to see Marvel’s take on Spider-Man, it’s good to see Garfield being positive about the casting choice. What are your thoughts on Tom Holland being Peter Parker?
