Fear the Walking Dead, the spinoff to AMC’s The Walking Dead, premiered last week and Entertainment Weekly has learned that a standalone episode will air online which will introduce a new character for season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead.
The half hour episode is said to follow a group of passengers on an airline flight, presumably destined for Los Angeles where Fear the Walking Dead is set, who encounter a zombie mid-flight. According to EW, the episode will air online and continue as the next season of The Walking Dead (which airs starting on October 11) unfolds.
The airline attack story will debut online, and will unfold in chapters that will air during Walking Dead’s on-air telecasts. In other words: You’re watching The Walking Dead, AMC cuts to commercial break, then you get a chapter in the as-yet-untitled stand-alone airline attack drama.
Other than that, details are scarce and it is highly unlikely that AMC will reveal the full cast of the next season of Fear the Walking Dead before the episode airs for fear of spoiling who the survivor is for viewers.
Fear the Walking Dead premiered to a record 13.3 million viewers which makes it the biggest series cable debut ever.
I can’t think of a scarier, more confined space to face off against a zombie attack than being on a flight at 30,000 feet above ground.
