Prometheus Sequel Has A Name!

|

The sequel to Prometheus, which was a prequel to the Alien franchise, has a name with a bit of brand recognition behind it. In an interview with British media outlet HeyUGuys, Ridley Scott revealed that “Prometheus 2″ is actually going to be titled Alien: Paradise Lost.

Since Scott made his official return to the Alien Cinematic Universe in 2009 when he signed on to produce the indirect prequel to the franchise, that was 2012’s Prometheus. Scott’s return performed well in the box office, earning over $400 million, and was given it’s own sequel, despite being previously changed to being a standalone prequel. Fans who were wondering when there would be a more direct return  to the series were given their answer with Scott’s announcement of what the prequel sequel’s title would be.

“Well actually really, it’s gonna be called Alien: Paradise Lost,” Scott said about the prospective title. “So ‘Prometheus 2’s’ not really gonna be… you know the poem? I doubt you’ve ever been through it, have you? The poem is a book, Paradise Lost. It sounds intellectual, but there’s a similarity to it and that’s where it stops.”

Though it takes the name of John Milton’s 17th century epic poem, Scott makes it clear that the similarities don’t run to deep. While viewers should expect to see their fair share of supernatural imagery, people familiar with the poem might expect to see a biblical struggle including angels, demons and sexual tension.

It should be noted that like all things in Hollywood, titles are not always set in stone. However with Scott poised to make his first directly related Alien film since the original in 1979, many fans likely won’t care as long as the end result lives up to what will surely be more lofty expectations.
