Xiaomi Mi 5 Might Release On October 19th

It looks like Xiaomi has sent out invites for an event they’re having on October 19th to possibly talk about, and release, the Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone.

The picture below is the invite that was sent out and probably like many of you, you might not know Mandarin because I sure don’t (I’m impressed if you do), so let me be your translator real quick. “Next generation of new conference” is the phrase, which can also be found on Xiaomi’s Weibo account. I’m wondering what the phrase could mean as a new way to hold a conference was done by OnePlus when they had theirs in virtual reality for the OnePlus Two launch. If Xiaomi has thought of something different, I’d like to see it.

The phone is rumored to have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, but that SoC hasn’t been released yet and should be appearing in next year’s devices, so it might possibly have MediaTek’s Helio X20 SoC. Also rumored is the screen size will be 5.2 inches with a QHD (2560 x 1440) display, a fingerprint scanner, USB Type C, 16 megapixel rear facing camera, an 8 megapixel front facing shooter, and 4GB of RAM. No word on what the internal storage is or if it’s expandable, but the phone will be running the newest version of MIUI.

The phone is meant to go up against the Motorola’s Moto X Style and the OnePlus Two. Of course pricing will definitely beat those two devices as the Mi 5 will be 1,900 yuan (21,000 INR, $323USD, $420CAD).

With October 19th not too far away, what are your thoughts about Xiaomi’s rumored Mi 5? Let us know by leaving your comments down below, or on Google +, Facebook, or Twitter.
